Ed Peterson

President

Ed has been a member of the Seattle Fire Department since 1984 and was honored as the Seattle Fire Department Officer of the Year in 2002. He has been a member of the department’s Hazardous Materials Response Team since 1992. He is an IAFF Master Instructor, a US&R Lead Instructor and has developed and taught a variety of courses on Hazardous Materials (Awareness, Operations, and Technician level), Technical Rescue, and Weapons of Mass Destruction. He is a HazMat Team Leader on US&R WA-TF1 and the regional MMRS team and served for three years on the PP&OE Subcommittee of the Department of Justice Interagency Board for Equipment Standardization. He is currently a member of the Washington State Technical Advisory Group for the development of a state-certified Hazardous Materials Technician program. Ed is the Executive Vice-President of the Emergency Response Training Institute, he has two children attending the University of Washington and lives in Bonney Lake, WA, with his wife and three dogs.

Mike Manning

Hazardous Materials Instructor

Mike graduated with a BA in business administration/mathematics from PLNU in 1991. He joined the Seattle Fire Department in 1995. He has been a member of the HazMat team since 2000. Mike teaches all levels of Hazardous Materials and has been with ERTI since 2003. Mike lives in Adna, Wa with his wife and 3 children.

Mark Beirne

Instructor (former President and Co-Founder)

Mark started his fire service career in 1980 and joined the Seattle Fire Department in 1983. He is a member of the Washington State USAR Task Force and the Technical Rescue team in Seattle. Mark has written technical rescue training guides, participated as an editor for many others and has been published in the trades. Mark is a FEMA and IAFF certified instructor who has trained several thousand fire service, military, and industry personnel over the last ten years. Mark is a hazardous materials technician, technical search specialist, and a rescue specialist. Mark lives on his boat in Seattle.

Todd Rademacher

Technical Rescue Instructor

Todd Radamacher has been employed by the SFD since 1996. He is currently the Lieutenant on Ladder Company 4 in downtown Seattle. Prior to his promotion, Todd spent 8 years on the departments Technical Rescue Team. Todd has been a Rescue Specialist with the Puget Sound USAR Team since 2000 and specializes in Structural Collapse and Trench Rescue but is well versed in all of the Technical Rescue Disciplines. Todd Lives in God’s Country “Enumclaw, WA” with his wife and daughter.

Ryan Nash

Ryan has been with the Seattle Fire Department since 1996 and a member of the Hazardous Materials team since 2000. He is also a member of the MMRS team. Ryan is an IAFF Instructor and a third party evaluator. He has taught a number of hazardous materials related courses and specializes in detection equipment. Ryan has a Bachelor’s degree from Washington State University. Ryan lives in Woodway, WA with his wife and two children.

John Dawson

Hazardous Materials Instructor

John Dawson joined the Seattle Fire Department in 1989. He has been a Hazardous Materials Technician and a member of the HazMat Response Team since 1997. He has extensive experience in the fields of Hazardous Materials and Technical Rescue and has taught a variety of courses in both disciplines. He specializes in the area of Hazardous Materials Detection Equipment. John is single and lives in Seattle, WA.

Paul Constantino

Hazardous Materials Lead Instructor

Paul Constantino joined the Fire Service in 1990 and he has been a member of the Seattle Fire Department since 1994. He joined the Hazardous Materials Response Team in 1995. He is a Hazardous Materials Technician and a Specialist in the field of Highway, Rail, and Fixed-facility Containers. He has developed and taught a wide variety of courses in the field of Hazardous Materials and has been teaching since 1996. Paul lives on Whidbey Island, WA, with his wife, he has two sons, one in the Air Force and the other in the Navy.

Frank Brennan

Technical Rescue Instructor

A seven-year veteran of the US Navy’s submarine service, Frank joined the service in 1990 and was hired by the Seattle Fire Department in 1991. He is currently a Lieutenant on the Technical Rescue Team. A state certified fire service instructor since 1991, Frank has researched, developed and implemented numerous training programs for rope, confined space, tunnel rescue and other rescue disciplines. He is a rescue squad leader as part of FEMA Urban Search & Rescue Washington Task Force 1 and a member of the regional Metro Medical Strike Team. As well as being a rescue specialist and public safety diver, Frank is also a hazardous materials technician and an IAFF Certified HazMat instructor. He sits on the NFPA 1670 committee on Technical Rescue and the NFPA committee on Life Safety in Road Tunnels. Frank holds a BA from the University of the State of New York. He makes his home in Silverdale, Wa with his two daughters and very patient wife.

Brett Bigger

Hazardous Materials Instructor

Brett is a member of the Renton Fire Department, serving on the Technical Rescue Team. Brett has been with Renton since 1998 and a member of the Renton Fire Haz-Mat team since 1999. Brett is a member of the Washington State Urban Search and Rescue Task Force, serving as a Haz-Mat Specialist. Brett has a Bachelor of Science from Western Washington University. He lives in Gig Harbor with his wife and two daughters.

Roger Bianchi

Hazardous Materials Instructor

Roger has been employed by the Seattle Fire Department since 1989 and a member of the Haz-Mat Team since 1994. He has taught various courses including all levels of Hazmat and WMD Courses. Roger has developed and taught courses involving Drug Lab Recognition and HazMat team operations. He is a member of the Clandestine Laboratory Investigators Association(CLIA). Roger was a Heavy Rigger/Logistics Specialist on FEMA USAR WATF-1 from 1996 until 2007. He is now a Hazmat Specialist with the team and a HazMat Specialist with the FEMA Incident Support Team. He is the logistics lead for Seattle’s Metropolitan Medical Strike Team (MMRS). Roger has four kids and lives in Maple Valley, WA with his wife, Becky.

Eric Nelson

After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA in 1992, Eric joined the San Bernardino County Fire Department in Califonia. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Seattle Fire Department and has been a member of the Hazardous Materials team since 1998. In addition to developing and teaching a variety of hazardous materials and emergency response training courses, Eric is the administrator of the Seattle Local Emergency Planning Committee. He lives in Auburn, WA with his wife and two children.
